EVAN
ANAK BORNEO

A singer-songwriter from Niah, Sarawak, weaving lived experience and imagined worlds into music.

THE ARTISAN'S VOICE

Evan Anak Borneo is a Malaysian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer and storyteller from Niah, Sarawak. Rather than working within one fixed genre, he moves between alternative rock, progressive music, ambient folk and instruments such as the sape, bungkau and gongs—following the story each work needs to tell.

His practice brings music, visual storytelling, performance and handcrafted objects into one evolving creative language. He approaches traditional instruments as voices with their own histories and cultural functions, allowing them to converse naturally with guitar, vocals, loops, rock arrangements and ambient textures.

Over time, this approach grew into the Anak Borneo Universe (ABU), an expanding fictional world shaped by environmental loss, displacement, urban life, memory and transformation. Through interconnected songs, characters, images and chapters, Evan creates stories in which Borneo’s past and present meet imagined futures.
